How the free NBA optimizer works

Our free NBA optimizer builds a complete daily fantasy basketball lineup for DraftKings or FanDuel in a few seconds, with no login and no credit card. This NBA daily fantasy optimizer ranks every player on tonight's slate with DashRank™, our score for a player's chance of a big night, and fits the best combination under the salary cap.

  1. Pick your site and slate. Choose DraftKings or FanDuel, then the slate you're entering.
  2. Generate. The optimizer fills every roster spot with the strongest lineup it can fit under the cap.
  3. Make it yours. Lock the players you want, exclude the ones you don't, or swap any spot from a list of alternatives. Generate again and the optimizer fills the rest around your picks.
  4. Choose GPP or cash. GPP mode chases upside for big tournaments. Cash mode uses projected ownership for 50/50s and double-ups, once ownership projections are posted.

NBA DraftKings optimizer vs. FanDuel NBA optimizer

DraftKings and FanDuel use different salaries, roster spots and scoring, so a lineup built for one site won't work on the other. Pick your site at the top of the page and the NBA lineup optimizer switches to that site's player pool and format:

  • DraftKings: PG, SG, SF, PF, C, G, F and UTIL, with a $50,000 salary cap.
  • FanDuel: PG, SG, SF, PF, C, G/F, F/C and two UTIL spots, with a $60,000 salary cap.
  • Single-game slates on both sites, with a captain or MVP spot plus five flex spots.

Using the NBA lineup optimizer around late news

NBA lineups change right up to tip-off. A star sits for rest, a starter is ruled out an hour before the game, and the backup who replaces him is suddenly the best value on the slate. Player news and depth charts update through the day, so run the NBA lineup optimizer again close to lock instead of building your lineup in the morning and leaving it.

When a cheap player moves into the starting lineup, generate again. The optimizer will usually find the salary he frees up and move it into a stronger player at another position. Lock the players you're sure about first, then let the NBA optimizer fill the rest.

When the NBA optimizer has slates

DraftKings and FanDuel run NBA contests from late October through the NBA Finals in June, and the NBA DFS optimizer has new slates almost every night of the season. In the off-season there are no slates to build from, but this page stays here, and the optimizer is ready again on the first day of the new season.

NBA DFS optimizer FAQ

Is the NBA optimizer really free?
Yes. You can generate a lineup on this page without signing up. Members also get the mass lineup generator, the late swap optimizer, saved lineups and the rest of our daily fantasy tools.

What's the difference between the NBA DraftKings optimizer and the FanDuel NBA optimizer?
They use different rosters and salary caps. DraftKings has 8 roster spots under a $50,000 cap, with G, F and UTIL flex spots. FanDuel uses a $60,000 cap with G/F, F/C and UTIL flex spots. Pick your site at the top of the page and the optimizer builds for that format.

Does the NBA DFS optimizer work for single-game slates?
Yes. Switch the slate type to Single Game and the optimizer builds a captain-style lineup for that one game.

Why don't I see a lineup?
The optimizer needs a slate with games on it. On days with no NBA games, or in the off-season, there's nothing to build from yet. Try another sport below.
